We have invited Bristol Diving School and Bristol Drawing Club to work their magic in the space, as well an array of other visual and musical delights, including artwork by Dominique Hill (Hand in Glove), a selection of delectable DJs and most importantly, remnants from all of the projects held at GLOVE BOX over the past 4 weeks.

Huge and monumental, but flimsy, Gold Standard dominates the space through size and forces people to negotiate around it. It makes assertions and promises it is in no position to keep, convinced that its ersatz glitz and cheap glamour will overcome all objections.

Also available is the BRBG audio compact disc, to continue your future-focused journey at home. Open from 11am – 6pm, the service operates as a drop-in centre, but if you feel you need more time to be heard, please email contact.glove@gmail.com to book an appointment with us.

HAND IN GLOVE NEEDS YOU!

We are pleased to announce our forthcoming temporary project space GLOVE BOX, which will be operating from mid-March 2011 at 2 Park Street, central Bristol (formerly Sue Sheppard and until recently the temporary residence of the Antlers Gallery), presenting a changing programme of exhibitions and events to foreground and support the practice of emerging artists (more info to follow very soon!).

We are looking for a team of volunteers to lend a hand, specifically in the areas of marketing, installation, documentation and invigilation, both preceding and during the project which opens on Thursday 17 March 2011 and will close on Wednesday 13 April 2011.

In return for your help, we can offer the opportunity to develop skills and experience in arts project delivery for personal and professional development and also the chance to be part of an exciting one-off dynamic project!

Our next, long awaited INTERPLAY event will take place on Tuesday 10th November at The Canteen (Co-Exist/Hamilton House) in Stokes Croft.

GET INVOLVED!

Hand in Glove are looking for submissions of visually exciting installation/sculptural/hanging work that can adapt to a busy canteen and reception space as part of our INTERPLAY evening taking place on Tuesday 10th November at The Canteen (Co-exist) in Stokes Croft, Bristol.

We are also looking for submissions of artist film for a showreel of finished and in progress video or photography work, to be projected all evening. This is intended to showcase young emerging artists work to a wide audience and create discussion of the work in a communal space.

INTERPLAY is a night of social networking, information-sharing and showcasing of live audio-visual performances, installation and film by local emerging artists. Hand in Glove are based in Bristol and aim to develop an evolving network of artists and creative practitioners through collaboration and experimentation.

To apply for the installation brief please email a selection of images, or a developed proposal to contact.glove@gmail.com placing ‘INTERPLAY Installation’ in the subject.

All submissions for the showreel should be in a Quicktime file type, no more than 7 mins in length (to try to get as many new and exciting pieces in as possible). It is as yet undetermined as to whether sound will be able to be played due to the space and other live music/performances taking place during the night. Place the file on a DVD/CD-R with title and artists details written on the disc and e-mail contact.glove@gmail.com placing ‘INTERPLAY Showreel’ in the subject, to receive an address to send your submission to. (Please note we cannot send discs back but they can be collected on the night).

Knowle Group Exhibition

Hand in Glove are seeking recently graduated/graduating visual artists in the area to participate in a group exhibition. This exhibition will showcase local artists who represent a wide range of contemporary visual media, as well as encouraging a supportive network and dialogue between young creatives in the Bristol area.

The exhibition is motivated by a DIY approach for artists to get their work seen. The work shown does not necessarily need to be presented as completed projects or in gallery terms ‘exhibition ready’, but may be presented purely as snippets of a developing artistic process with the intention of generating a profile and creating opportunities for those involved.

All participants must be available from June 7th – 13th for setting up and taking down work and a rota of exhibition invigilation. Work in all media will be considered.

Following on the great success of our first Interplay event, Hand In Glove invites you to our next event in May.

Interplay is an artist-led networking and information sharing evening, presenting a series of collaborative live and recorded performances and installations by local visual artists, sound artists and musicians.

The night is FREE and open to all with a focus on showcasing local creative talent, meeting new creative people and allowing a platform for promoting your own arts events and exhibitions.

Thank you to everyone that attended INTERPLAY on the 26th March, we feel that it was a resounding success and a big thank you to the artists involved as well as the staff at the Grain Barge, in particular a big shout out to Dave Bain for all his hard work and enthusiasm. Lastly a huge thank you to Tom Sparey for taking such wonderful photos which you can see in the photo section and Jack Wormell for kindly documenting the event on video, much appreciated!

We had really positive feedback and a lot of interest from artists wanting to show work at our next event. We are just in the process of adding everyones details to the mailing list, before an email will be sent to you all outlining our future plans and events. Also please check back to our website in the next few days for a gallery of all your lovely (and some strange) self portraits!

Just a reminder to everyone that there's not long to go till INTERPLAY. Here's a bit more information on the event:

INTERPLAY is our exciting new bi-monthly social networking event. For our inaugural event held at the Grain Barge, we will be offering an eclectic selection of both live and recorded audio-visual performances by local artists.

INTERPLAY is an opportunity for all creative people based in the Bristol, South Wales and South West area to meet and develop an inclusive and evolving network where new collaborations are formed, new contacts and friendships are made, and new art is shared.

The night is FREE to attend and open to all, but particularly aimed at practicing artists, creative practitioners, art, film and performance students and anybody with an interest in and passion for innovative contemporary arts.
